#134: Teardown of failed power supply – bad capacitor

This short video shows the teardown of a small, cheap linear power supply that failed after a few minutes of being plugged in for the first time. A small pop and hiss was heard, followed by some excessive heat. Luckily I was there to unplug it before it turned really ugly! The video shows opening the supply up, and looking at what failed – a bad capacitor, bulged and high ESR. A video describing my ESR meter can be found here:
