Radio purchased at at Radioddity, the fine resellers of these Excellent products that definitely are totally clean. Radioddity was contacted about this radio and of course “IT WAS A MISTAKKEEEE” (not an actual quote). Their engineers forgot to lock down the radio :D.
I am looking for a Triband Radio, really had my eyes set on this but also knew it most likely wouldn’t pass any test for spectrum purity. If you don’t believe the analyzer, maybe you’ll believer the SDR .
This radio is advertised at 5w output on high power.
My results were:
2M – Low Power – 2.83 Watts / High Power 5.11W (and over, slightly)
1.25M – Low Power 2.19 Watts / High Power 5.22W
70CM – Low Power .87 Watts / High Power 2.86W
GMRS Low Power .25 Watts / High Power 1.81W
(Tests were conducted using a poor quality dummy load)
The Baofeng UV5RX3 Is very similar to the the popular Baofeng UV5R, but with another band added. let’s be real though, this radio is completely unlocked, if that’s your thing.
Comes with a totally sweet CH340 Programming cable and this radio is programmable in chirp. Additionally, this totally not a Baofeng UV5R, comes with 2 antennas. One for 2m/70cm and one for 1.25m
(I’m having fun with these videos, don’t get too sour).
Harmonic wise, I can transmit on 146.520 and at the same time put out nearly the same signal on 293mhz. By the way, the FCC Certification I speak of in the video is a certification for part 15B.
I do not have a way to test receive sensitivity with cool test equipment, sorry.
Do I recommend this radio? Well, no not really. Why? Because you can just buy a UV5R and modify it if you want. You’ll be in the same position, but with a few extra bucks in your pocket. UNLESS you need a programming cable and want two antennas. Then, if you don’t mind the spectrum impurity, do what you want (I’m not your father).
What HT radio do I recommend for HT Triband Ops? Good question, I’m looking myself.
