Ham radio tip , Keep your Key clean , safety old transmitters

Safety First Using an old cathode keyed transmitter can be dangerous high voltage may be on the metal parts of your telegraph key . Many older Tube transmitters key the final amplifier tube cathode on my old Heathkit AT-1 I measured 300 volts on the metal parts of the Key . I found this out after I got a real nasty shock when touching my old J38 Key connected to the AT-1 . Placing the key in a plastic bag and operating the Key through the plastic bag when using old transmitters adds a measure of safety . Having the key in the bag also protects the key from dust and dirt . If you are showing the station to someone just pull the bag off 73 Bob
